What Happened in May

What a month! We are so thrilled to have had such inspiring and committed community fundraisers as part of Team Cure MS, raising funds for a cure.

We saw some pretty cool things happening during the month of May, including the raffling of a DC Tri, which raised over $2,000 by the amazing Matt Lennon in Rockhampton (pictured). MS is a cause close to Matt’s heart, after his wife Megan was diagnosed with MS just three years ago. They’ve also been involved with the MS Swimathon in Rockhampton.

“The Boys That Dance” fundraiser was held on the last weekend of May, run my Michael and Stuart. You may recall these guys have been hosting this event since 2015, to show their support and raise awareness and funds for MS Queensland, after a close friend was diagnosed in 2013. They have raised thousands of dollars over the years, and their event is always a hoot!!

The incredible Althea joins MS staff and volunteers on World MS Day each year, shaking a donation tin bright and early at the busy train stations around Brisbane. Althea has been hosting a fundraiser in May, going on seven years now! She always hosts a workplace morning tea at Queensland Rail each year, called ‘Wear Red for MS’. Staff bring along a red themed plate and dress to match!

Charlie held a ‘Let MS Shine’ market day in Samford, which was truly inspiring. This was a great opportunity for people living with MS to show off their amazing creations and skills, held at the Samford community hall. There were food trucks, live entertainments, and stalls to be seen. This will be an annual event, and we can’t wait to hear what Charlie has in mind for next year…

These are just a few of the events that took place in May. There were plenty of other dedicated community fundraisers who joined in shaking tins, selling merchandise and hosting events, all to raise awareness and funds for MS. Thank you!
